Caolan Rafferty got his season off to a flying start with victory at the Laytown & Bettystown Senior Scratch Cup where he won by a commanding six stroke margin.
The provincial Grand Slam winner led from the front in the 36 hole event and was never caught. An opening seven-under 64 followed by a closing 66 gave the Dundalk man a winning 12-under total, six ahead of Stephen Coulter in second.
The Laytown & Bettystown Scratch Cup is typically the curtain raiser to the new season for elite golfers, who also have one eye on the West of Ireland Championship at Rosses Point over the Easter period. The cut to get into the Laytown event was +1.9.
