The recently revived ‘Skins Game’ returned after a 17-year hiatus and it produced plenty of drama where US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley came out on top while Ireland’s Shane Lowry had a mixed day.
The action took place at Panther National Golf & Country Club in Florida and had the relaxed feel heading into the festive, holiday period and Thanksgiving in the US. The event welcomed Ryder Cup stars Bradley, Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele.
Bradley came away as the clear winner with 11 skins out of the 16-hole contest. Key to his success was a clutch seven-foot putt on the 13th, which netted a jaw-dropping US $900,000 after several holes’ prize money had carried over.
He also won five skins on the fifth after none of the quartet claimed the first four holes.
In total, Bradley walked away with $2.1 million. Fleetwood was second, taking home $1.7 million thanks to a dramatic finish where he won the final hole which had rollover skins.
Lowry was a late call up for Justin Thomas and came away with just one skin ($200,000) courtesy of his birdie at the ninth. The Offaly man was left to rue a missed putt on the 12th that would have won him more dollars. “I left a few dollars out there today,” Lowry joked.
