Next year’s Amgen Irish Open will move to Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, Co Clare from September 10-13, 2026, where defending champion Rory McIlroy will seek to thrill home fans just as he did recently at The K Club.

Word had been circulating during last week’s Irish Open at The K Club that Doonbeg, owned by US President Donald Trump, was lined up to host its first Irish Open, and confirmation came when the DP World Tour announced their 2026 schedule.

The national championship was won in spectacular fashion by McIlroy last week when he holed a miraculous eagle putt on the 72nd hole to force a play-off before denying Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren in the playoff. The 2026 edition will once again form again form part of the ‘Back 9’ on the overall schedule.

When asked about the prospect of the Irish Open going to Doonbeg ahead of last week’s event at The K Club, McIlroy said he had no problem going there.

“I've never played Doonbeg. I went there for dinner once at some point. I've obviously heard the rumours. I'm not sure if it's confirmed or not or when the schedule comes out, but if it were to go there, I would have no problem,” said McIlroy at the time.

“The Scottish Championship was played at a Trump property near Aberdeen there a few weeks ago, looked like it was great event. We're going back to Doral next year on the PGA TOUR. If that's back on a links course, I'm not sure how Doonbeg stacks up against other links courses in the country, but I would be absolutely happy to go there.”

It will be something of a festival of golf along the renowned Atlantic coast in the southwest as the Irish Open will take place one week after the Walker Cup takes place at Lahinch in Co Clare.

Guy Kinnings, the DP World Tour’s Chief Executive, said: “Our 2026 schedule once again showcases our global talent in global destinations as we celebrate the diversity of the courses and cultures we visit.

“The five Global Swings, the Back 9 and the DP World Tour Play-Offs provide a compelling season-long narrative on the Race to Dubai, comprising many historic national Opens and international events that have an enduring appeal to our members and our fans.

“Our thanks go to our partners, broadcasters, promoters, federations and partner Tours for their support and commitment to the DP World Tour and we look forward to once again spotlighting the considerable depth of international talent we have on Golf’s Global Tour.”
