Golf Ireland extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Golf Ireland Honorary Life Member, Brigid McCaw, who passed away peacefully at home this morning Thursday 3rd September 2026.

Brigid made an extraordinary contribution to Irish golf over many decades, serving with distinction at club, regional, national and international level. Her dedication, leadership and passion for the game left a lasting impact on countless players, clubs and organisations throughout Ireland and beyond.

Among her many achievements, Brigid served as Captain of Royal County Down Ladies during the club's centenary year in 1989, held several key positions within the Northern District and the ILGU, and became the fifth Irish President of the Ladies Golf Union in 2013/14, having previously served as Chairperson from 2009 to 2010.

She was elected an Honorary Life Member of the ILGU in 2011 and went on to help guide the organisation through a period of significant change in Irish golf, serving as the 36th and final President of the ILGU during the historic transition to Golf Ireland in 2020.

Brigid was highly respected across the golfing community, not only for her outstanding service but also for her generosity, wisdom and unwavering commitment to the sport.

On behalf of everyone at Golf Ireland, we extend our sincere condolences to Brigid's daughter, Anita, sons Gordon and Kenneth, as well as to her wider family, friends and all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
